Your wedding
colors are an expression of yourself. Just
like the bridesmaid dresses the
bridal attendants wear, the flowers
you have at your wedding and reception should reflect
and complement your wedding colors
well. Flowers come in many colors
and varieties, and a little careful planning will
ensure that your flowers enhance the entire wedding
experience.
For many brides,
the bridesmaid dresses are the
simplest reflection of the wedding colors.
Ask your dress provider for fabric swatches from
each different color of material used to make the
bridesmaid dresses. These swatches
can be taken to whoever is planning your wedding,
or to the florist, to help you determine which flowers
will look best with your chosen colors. Additionally,
if you have a larger swath of fabric, it is a good
idea to set it up as a backdrop for sample flowers,
to see if they complement each other.
Real
flowers add a beautiful, elegant touch.
They also perfume the wedding celebration. It is
a good idea to create a test bouquet of the desired
flowers, to be sure that the fragrances
go well together. Also, if the wedding is held in
a small, intimate setting, you do not want to choose
flowers whose scents overwhelm
the proceedings. Very fragrant flowers
work better outdoors, or in a large hall or church
with adequate ventilation.
Green, naturally,
complements any flowers. It is the color of leaves,
stems and grass, and so looks good with most flower
arrangements. If you have more than one color, such
as blue and white, flowers of different
shades of blue can add variety, while still complementing
the wedding party. Mix white flowers
into these floral arrangements as well. Adding colors
like hot pink to the arrangement can add accents,
even if they are not your wedding colors.
Hot pink accents
go well with deep reds and dark greens as well.
Another bright color that adds accent layers is
lime green. While most people won't choose lime
green as a color, it looks attractive added among
flowers chosen for weddings with
purple, white and/or yellow themes.
One color
to watch for in a flower arrangement is deep purple.
This color can actually recede when placed amongst
other blooms. While they work well outside, if you
plan to use them indoors, it is important to make
sure the room or church is well lit, in order to
make sure they are visible.
